Keeley Forsyth
Wednesday 11 September 2024
Temple de Saint-Gervais La Batie Festival De GenĂ©ve, Geneva Switzerland For Japanese artist Hatis Noit, music is a language for expressing emotions that words can’t describe. At the age of 16, she discovered the power of the human voice when she heard a nun perform Buddhist chants. It was this deeply moving experience that gave birth to her vocation as a singer, which she has since cultivated as a self-taught artist. Inspired as much by folk music as by Gregorian chants, Bulgarian voices, and traditional Japanese music, Noit uses loops to create live works that are entirely vocal, intimate works that are both profound and ethereal. Thanks to her consistently intense vocal performances, and her ability to make the most of the energy and atmosphere that emanate from a venue, the artist also succeeds every time in establishing an extraordinary communion with her audience. Keeley Forsyth is a British singer, songwriter, and actress who has lived several artistic lives. After frequenting film sets in the mid-90s, she made her distinct musical style known in 2020 with an outstanding debut album. Her striking contralto voice and mesmerising presence quickly caught the public’s attention. Citing Béla Tarr and Pina Bausch, she involves her whole body in her stage performances, which are rare and captivating moments. Forsyth has a talent for uncovering the profound truths hidden beneath the veneer of everyday life. At Temple Saint-Gervais, she’ll deliver beautiful, brooding tracks, drawn from her latest album, The Hollow.
