2026 marks ten years since the planets aligned for the release of Channel The Spirits – the debut album by The Comet Is Coming. The trio of Shabaka, Danalogue and Betamax, powerful in their own right, transcended to another plane when united.
Exploding In Slow Motion: The Complete Channel The Spirits Recordings 2013-2017CE celebrates that legacy by bringing together the original album, the Prophecy and Death To The Planet EPs and various rarities from the era, including four previously unreleased tracks.
Announced to coincide with the Draconids meteor shower of course…
The Comet returns.
Listen to the newly unearthed ‘Late Night Party Jam 2’, taken from the earliest known Comet recordings, which as the name suggests goes hard.
Exploding In Slow Motion will be released in multiple physical formats, all of which feature revised and updated maximalist artwork, exhibiting the extraordinary work of artists and photographers Fabrice Bourgelle and Tilly Mint, and designer Oli Bentley.
Triple vinyl editions include The Ancient Tapes and the four previously unreleased tracks on vinyl for the first time. The records are packaged in printed inner and die-cut outer sleeves, with a die-cut O-card slipcase and a 60 x 60cm double-sided fold-out poster. For full sensory overload, each sleeve is printed on both outer and inner surfaces.
The motherlode in this case is the polychromatic ‘Ring Nebula’ edition of 500 (splatter and colour-in-colour discs) – available exclusively from Rough Trade and Bandcamp.
A triple vinyl edition on translucent violet, blue and orange vinyl is limited to 1,500 copies and will be available at record shops of the universe.
Finally, a very limited run of double ‘rave case’ cassettes will be available exclusively through Bandcamp.
