fuseleeds09 Starts This Week

fuseleeds09 is nearly upon us which is very exciting. The festival, set in Leaf's hometown of Leeds, UK, features our artists Colleen, Efterklang, A Hawk And A Hacksaw and Nancy Elizabeth.

The festival kicks off with bell peals composed by Cécile Schott and Gavin Bryars at noon at Leeds Parish Church on Saturday 25 April. Efterklang and the Britten Sinfonia's' performance of 'Parades follows that evening. More information can be found in our original news story. or by clicking on the link below.

Fair Trade For Music?

Interesting article (and user comments) from The Guardian here, about the issues of artists being fairly remunerated for their work in an age of 'free' downloads. Nice to see the media taking a non-judgemental, pro-music creator stance for once.

I do genuinely believe that most music fans want to do the right thing and commit to the music they love. Maybe this is a way forward.

FWIW, we as a label have been trying to negotiate with the likes of Last.fm and Youtube for what seems like years (and probably is). While there is no evidence yet that advertising-funded models like Spotify are anywhere near providing a realistic source of income for labels and artists alike, they should certainly be encouraged in their attempts.
